[Resolved] Cannot start the game

Postby Alpha » 16 Dec 2013, 02:18

Hi and thank you for all your hard work on this old beauty!

I recently found your homepage and trying to get the game to work but failed at all attempts. The Problem is whenever I try to start the game Windows gives me:

CocoNet have stopped working

I use Windows 7 32-bit swedish version

This is what comes up in the problem information

Stopped working

Problemsignatur:
Problemhändelsens namn: APPCRASH (What cause the problem)
Application Name: CoCoNet.exe
Application Version: 1.0.2.47
Application Timestamp: 50071709
Fault Module Name: KERNELBASE.dll
Fault Module Version: 6.1.7601.18229
Fault Module Timestamp: 51fb10c6
Exception Code: e0434f4d
Exception Offset: 0000812f
OS-version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.48
Språkvariant-ID: 1053 (language ID in swedish)

Some stuff I've tried to do

Run the install file as admin and the game as well. No luck there
Try running in different compitability modes from Win XP to win Vista, no luck there either.
Tried disabling the Windows firewall, didn't help either.

Any help or support would be appriciated and if you need me to attach something I would do that but I don't have a log folder which I assume the game creates when it starts the first time or I've not found it in the installing folder.

Thanks
Alpha

Hello Alpha,

You need to install the Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5.
CoCoNet Setup installs it by default if you have an internet connection.
Otherwise you need to install it manually (you can use the Add/Remove Windows Features of Windows 7) :

Thank you for your feedback.

Your problem is a common corruption of the .Net Framework 3.5 or XNA Framework 3.1.

To repair your .Net Framework installation, you can try this (at your own risk) :
Windows 7: .NET is built-in, to repair follow these steps:

1. Click your Windows button
2. Type CMD, and then right click on the Command Prompt that shows up, and select 'Run as Administrator'.
3. At the DOS Prompt, type 'sfc /scannow' and press Enter
4. It may at some point ask you for your original installation files, which you will need to get off of the original Windows Installation source.
5. You are done, this will have repaired any .NET framework problems up to 3.5, which is built-in to these systems, as well as any other issues that may have become corrupted.

To repair the XNA Framework, uninstall and install it back : http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=15163

Hope it helps.

Welcome Ayoross,

Do you have any log files created in the Logs folder ?
Have you tried to run CoCoNet with Administrator rights ?

No logs folder.

I tried to run it as an administrator, and I also tried win XP compatibility mode, no success.
Note that the map editor also crashes.

Do you have something like this when CoCoNet crashes ? Or a stack trace ?
Please, post a screenshot of the crash.

Can you try to:
1) Uninstall CoCoNet
2) Install CoCoNet somewhere but NOT in the "C:\Program Files (x86)\", "C:\Program Files" or "whatever your main program files is called" (nor in your Documents folder).
For example, install it in "D:\Games\CoCoNet\"
3) Launch the game (first without administrator rights, then with, then in WinXP SP3 compatibility mode).

It is already installed in another folder (C:\Jeux), so I already did these tests.

Are you sure you have .Net Framework 3.5 (not 4.5) installed ?
(Check the second post of this thread to know how to uninstall/install it.)
The .Net 3.5 may be corrupted too, you can apply the same steps (uninstall/install) to repair it.

Thank you.

If my above solution does not work (uninstalling/installing Framework .Net 3.5), can you post the DxDiag file (type dxdiag in the start menu run command).
